Patsy's Bar

If you ever find yourself in Coleraine craving a place that’s equal parts relaxed hangout and buzzing entertainment hub, Patsy's Bar on 1 Bushmills Road is the spot you’ll want to check out. This local gem blends that unmistakable community pub feel with just enough flair to keep things lively, all while staying true to its Northern Irish charm.

Let’s talk atmosphere first. Patsy’s Bar doesn’t try to be something it’s not. It leans fully into being a classic local bar - no frills, no fuss - but it does it so well. The moment you step through the wheelchair-accessible entrance, you’re welcomed by an interior that feels familiar even if it’s your first time there. Think rustic yet well-kept, with just the right lighting for settling in with a pint or catching up with friends after work. There’s no delivery, no takeaway, and that actually says a lot. Patsy’s isn’t about convenience food or quick fixes - it’s about experience, the kind that happens in person.

The beer selection deserves a moment of its own. Whether you're a craft beer enthusiast or someone loyal to a well-poured pint of Guinness, this place caters to both ends of the spectrum. It’s evident the bar staff take pride in their pours, and the variety on tap reflects a thoughtful curation, not just a generic checklist. Add to that a lineup of cocktails, spirits, and wines, and you’ve got a drinks list that covers every kind of mood - from post-shift refreshers to full-blown Saturday night sessions.

And speaking of nights out - this is where Patsy’s really comes alive. On select evenings, the bar transforms into a mini entertainment hub. Live music regularly fills the space, often featuring local talent that knows exactly how to keep the energy up. If you’re lucky, you might catch a live performance night, where the atmosphere borders on electric - locals singing along, couples dancing near the back, and the unmistakable feeling of a shared moment. It’s also a top pick for sports fans, thanks to multiple screens and a crowd that’s as passionate as they are welcoming. Whether it's Premier League, Six Nations, or a big boxing night, this is the kind of place where you don’t just watch - you feel the game.

For a more laid-back evening, bar games like darts and pool are always in play. They give the bar a sense of casual fun - competitive but never intense, and always a good icebreaker if you’re new to the area. Plus, there's dancing. Yes, the kind where no one’s judging your moves because everyone’s just there to have a good time.

Accessibility is another strong point. Wheelchair-accessible toilets and entrance features mean it’s a space built with inclusivity in mind - a detail not all local bars prioritize, but Patsy’s clearly does.

While Patsy's doesn't offer food or takeaway options, that's never really the expectation here. It’s more about community, conversation, and atmosphere. You come here to connect, not consume. And that’s what makes it stand out in a sea of overly polished gastro pubs and chain bars.

What also sets Patsy’s Bar apart is how it stays authentic without feeling outdated. There’s an honesty in its setup - from the no-nonsense amenities to the clean and well-maintained restrooms, everything is done with care, not flair. You can tell this isn’t just a business; it’s a gathering place where locals have their “usuals,” where new visitors are welcomed with a nod or a toast, and where the music’s volume never drowns out a good story.

For anyone hunting for a real-deal pub in Coleraine - not just a place to drink, but a place to belong - Patsy's Bar delivers. Come for the beer, stay for the banter, and don’t be surprised if it becomes your go-to before you know it.

Patty's bar has been my best experience in Ireland, the locals are beyond beautiful, the bar tenders love tourist as well as the owner who weren't even here. We appreciate your kindness all the way from Newfoundland, Canada. Thank you, Colin, Joan, Patsy; Maria, Ryan, Joanne and Aidy! I'm not sure we've ever been treated so well. We will definitely pass along this beautiful blessing. ~ Shelley and Dennis
